Guitar Prices Coming down?

26/07/2024

I have GAS. Gear Acquisition Syndrome in case I wasn't clear. This means, like many other guitar players, I am always looking at the next guitar and dreaming of the next purchase. And, not being a millionaire, yet, I keep an eye on the price.

During covid, the prices of guitars seemed to be headed for the moon and didn't seem to be slowing down as sales were increasing. More than likely this was due to us all being trapped in our homes and deciding to learn the coolest instrument available (factually correct). Guitar builders have also increased production since this time to keep up with demand. This has now resulted in a manufacturers having a backlog of gear.

I have seen some interesting deals on some of the larger guitar shops, in the UK at least. PRS customs shops with a price decrease of £2500! That guitar is still costing over £8000 but I will leave that part out when telling the wife. I've also seen some other great deals on guitars where free amps are supplied. This may be due to the fact that more affordable guitars are getting better and better and the sales of the custom shop are dropping? Have the guitars decreased in value or are they back to their realistic price point?

If you are in the fortunate position where you are knocking on the custom shops door or, peeking through the letter box, then this may be a nice time to make the purchase. For the rest of us dreamers it's nice to watch the prices come down and let our imaginations run even wilder than normal. Hopefully we can see some more price drops, see more guitars in more players hands and not be destined to enter the display case.
